What products to hairdressers use to tone down hair after highlighting it?

I am trying to gracefuly grow out my highlights, but they are getting too light. I need to look good next week as I have a very important employment interview. I need to take my hair for this multi-colored mess to at least two shades for natural looking highlights. I want to darken only the lightened part probably 2 or 3 shades. So that my hair wont look matte. My hair is naturally dark brown, and I would like the lighter pieces to look medium brown. However, I don't want the dark pieces to be dyed medium brown, so that there will be some contrast. - Can anyone help!! I can't afford another salon visit.

I have used semi-permanent colour to tone down highlights and it works great.

Buy a semi-permanent or a rinse that is lighter then your natural colour and at least one shade lighter then the shade you want your highlights to be. One shade lighter because semi-permanents tend to come out a little darker at first. Don't buy anything that says 'Ash' or 'Cool' because those are the ones that could potentially look a little green. Buy one that says 'Warm' or 'Natural'. Semi-permanents tend to wash out or fade on lightened hair but should not affect the colour of your natural hair.

Good luck and if you are too scared to try it yourself please seek professional help.

go to a beauty suppy store and buy a color close to the color you want. Make sure you ask the clerk for a color that has no green coloring in it or your hair will have a green tinge. You mix the color with a developer and leave on for approx 20 min or longer depending on how dark the color you want. after the alloted time mix some warm water and shampoo with the remaining color. shake it up (make sure you cover the lid) and put it on the rest of her hair than wait about 5 minutes. Then rinse. This will blend the new color with the old or your natural color. buy a tint bottle it has markings so you knwo how much to add. Usually the color comes in 2 ounces so you need to add 2 ounces of the developer. equal parts. Hope this helps.

just color all of it...try to match your brown as close as you can. Go to the salon later when you can afford it.
