How do I make my hair look piecey or slept in?

I have a short hair cut, very similiar to Aeon Flux. That is my ultimate goal, but I'm having trouble controling my hair so that I have small pieces instead of all my hair looking unstyled and just letting it fall straight. I'm trying to make the longer pieces that fall into my face curve in and also be in small groups. I've tried everything and I just can't seem to get it right. I'm also curious as to how I get the rockstar hair cut that looks like you got into a fight with your hair gel. Any help would be much appreciated!

It's easier to start styling this look when you genuinely have bed-head. I like to run texturizer through my ends to give it a messy look. You could also try using a flat iron to flip out your ends. A little bit of wax is great for piecing out different sections of your hair. Good luck!

put hairspray in it before you go to bed at night.. then don't touch it when you wake up in the morning..

Use egg yolks

No hairspray and touch it lots of times

Wash it

Dont sleep on it

Stay away from a cartoon look

No wax

If you use anything put it close to the roots

Nothing on it by anyone named John

for the rockstar look, you could use a styling wax or pomade, almost all the companies make these, so you can pick your favorite. for a piecy, beachy type look, use john frieda's ocean waves spray. just don't use any of these products right at your roots or your hair will fall flat.

I think your putting way way waaaaaaaay to much thought into your hair. If you want to copy an MTV cartoon...get the "Beavis" cut...its much easier.

"piecey"?
