my hair always seems to have a bounch of single hairs popping out. like they're short one strand pieces that just dangle from my hair

You should use a hair smoothing product to tame those hair. There are tons out there to buy.

I make my hair less poofy by washing/drying at night and sleeping on it. When I wake up the next morning, it's not nearly as big. Also, I use a daily leave in conditioner (currently I use the Dove product) which helps it stay soft through all the blow drying. For those little fly-aways, you have to use hair spray or mouse or some gel to keep them in place.

My hair has a bunch of single hairs on the top too, so i started using paul mitchell gloss drops. they work wonders!! its about $15-$20 per bottle but its well worth it and a little goes a long way. also, i use the paul mitchell super skinny shampoo and conditioner. its great for poofy hair. my hair is super thick and it flattens it down wonderfully. its about $10 for the shampoo and $10 for the conditioner.
