17 year old loosing hair?

I'm a 17 year old female with short hair. I've had short hair for a while now and some of it did fall out, just like it should, but now for the last like 3 weeks I've noticed that there is so much hair in the shower everytime and when its wet I put my hands through it and just end up with hair on my hands! And it's not the whole hairs falling out, sometimes its short pieces.

I have been blow-drying my hair for years. I don't do it all the time, but to make sure my hair can be styled and it presentable...I NEED TO.

This has never happened to such an extent before. I'm freaking out.

No bald spots can be seen, but I can feel that I have less hair than I did before.

How can I stop this?

I drink like 9 bottles of water a day, I eat healthy and I sleep 8-9 hours each day.

Any suggestions?

I used to have very long, very curly hair and I got so fed up with it that I cut it very short. When my hair was long I used to lose handfuls of hair every day but now that it is short, the problem is pretty much no longer there. I think the blow-drying could be a factor. Do you use a cool setting? Do you hold it a fair distance away from your hair? I use products that shape and flatten my hair and stop it from frizzing out, so I don't need to blow-dry. How are your stress levels? Have you felt more under pressure than usual over the last few weeks? Have you visited your doctor? They may have more ideas. This is all I can think of so I hope it is helpful. Good luck.

It may be the products you use. Or it could be a sign of illness. you should see your doctor. It could be an allergy to a product or food that has just developed.

See a Dr. to check for underlying conditions that may cause this. Also look up "Alopecia" before you go in, and see if there is any possibility that it could be the cause. Also, talk to a nutritionist re. possible nutritional deficiencies, esp. as related to stress, which can be the sole cause in and of itself.

Good luck.

I didn't read anywhere about whether or not you colored your hair, but I will assume you do because it sounds as if your hair is hella damaged. You need a good hot oil treatment. V05 sells a good one or you can replenish your hair will my recipe. Take a cup of Honey and mix it with one avocado (peeled and mashed). Mix together in a bowl and add distilled water to make it mixable. Put it in the microwave (use microwave safe bowl) for about 30 sec (don't use if too hot). Apply it to your hair and then use a shower cap. Leave it on for about an hour (or more if you don't have anywhere to go). Then rinse well and shampoo once with a creamy shampoo (not a clarifying shampoo). Then follow up with a conditioner. Do this 2 times a month. Let me know if you see an improvement. You normally can tell after the first time.

Go to a doctor as soon as possible.

Hair loss has to be treated from the inside. Changing shampoos, etc. is not going to help.

Soy will make your hair fall out if you eat too much of it because it blocks the thyroid hormone production. Also, not eating enough protein contributes to hair loss. Stress and certain medical conditions may be indicated.

Everyone's hair falls out sometimes... it depends on when you shed... there's a time usually when your hair does and is supposed to fall out a little... usually in the Winter my hair falls out some, but if there are chunks and lots and I mean lots! of hair falling out then that's not right, but if it's just a little or not to much then I wouldn't worry about it.

it could just be that you have weak hair. lay off on the washing. don't wash your hair everyday. just once or twice a week. when you do wash your hair, use some strengthening shampoos.

You should go see a Doctor

if your Iron levels are low your hair starts to fall out specially when you brush or wash your hair. Or if you have a thyroid that causes hair loss. so I suggest you go see a doctor.

Sometimes when a persons hair falls out it can be a symptom of an illness. Just check it out and go to the doctors. It is better to be cautious and make sure you are alright. Keep taking good care of yourself.

17 year old loosing hair?

I have the same problem for years now. I thought it was hereditary because my mother has very thin hair. I went to a dermatologist and found out is was from my thyroid. He suggested I use rogaine and that seemed to help after three or four months. But my scalp is very sensitive. And sometimes it would burn. Also I take hair, skin, and nail vitamins. To much protein in your diet could also be causing this. If you lose anymore than 100 strands of hair a day that is too much. Lay off the cheap stuff. Like pantene and suave. Buy salon products. But first and foremost see a dermatologist. Lots of luck on you Locks!
