Hair not curling?

I have naturally curly hair and I recently had my hair styled in a way I really liked. The hairdresser curled the top and random pieces of my hair with a 1 inch curling iron. I am using a product that she said is very similar to the one she used on my hair, but it doesn't curl all the way and just falls unlike when she did it. Does anyone have any suggestions? Could it have to do witht he fact that my curling iron is really old and doesn't seem to heat up all the way? Hair professionals only please.

Hair not curling?

well i have been a hair dresser for 28 yrs and it is probably the curling iron. make sure ur curling iron heats up all the way. maybe get a new one from where urs is dull. and try holding the curling iron in the hair 4 bout 20 secs 4 that extra touch with the old one. hope i helped

I'm not really sure what you mean by "not curling all the way" and "just falls". That could be anything!

It appears you are not getting the holding power of a good curl. If you have naturally curly hair, you shouldn't have this problem. I can see a couple of reasons it does not 閳ユ竷url all the way".

How long ago did you have your hair cut? When it gets longer, there is added weight and it will pull itself down and make it flatter. The reason it worked so well when it was first cut is that it was shorter, and it will not have the weight on each curl. I always say: when it just doesn't work for you anymore (it will happen overnight), it's time for another haircut.

You are not using the same product. There IS a difference! You may be using something that is too heavy for your hair, and making your hair weighed down. It may also be causing your hair to hold too much moisture and it will never curl and hold its shape. Never.

You may not be curling your hair properly. You should be taking small sections for best results. You should start at the root area, and work towards the ends. When the hair is still hot, it can be considered to be "soft" or "wet". You do not want to disturb it in this state -- allow it to cool before you brush it. I like to carefully remove the iron and clip the curl in place and leave it for several minutes until it is completely cool. You'll see a great difference if you do it this way. (yes, it takes longer)

You say your iron is really old, and if it is for home use, it may not even get hot enough. The professional irons do get very hot, and the ones made for the public will never get hot enough. This is to protect the manufacturer from claims that it caused severe burns or that it burned the hair off! You may need to get something better. Look at the wattage of the iron: something about 18 or more watts should get hot enough, but be very careful how you use them! You can also cause irreparable damage if you don't know what you are doing. Use a product specially made for thermal styling.
