Hi, I am a swimmer on a team and spend loads of hours in the water. I don't want my hair to be ruined by the chlorine....... any suggestions?

latex hair piece? U mean swim cap? I am on swim team and I am 10 years old and in the water 12 hours a week. Try using swimmer shampoo's. I use them all the time and it works. It depends what kind you get....I forgot.

You buy a good quality conditioner, I chose Dove Moisturizing. Put it in your hair like you would in the shower, then put your cap on. The first couple of times your cap might slip a little during practice, but you'll get the hang on proper conditioning techniques.

I don't rinse the conditioner out after practice, but if the stuff in your hair grosses you out, then you can. My hair is definately softer after I use the conditioner.

I know that by simply soaking your hair in tap water before jumping in the pool helps keep some of the chlorine out of your hair. This is because your hair is like a sponge...if you soak your hair under the shower before jumping in the pool, then your hair will soak up less of the pool water than if you jumped in with dry hair. I have also heard that spraying a leave-in conditioner before swimming helps, but i'm not sure why.

ive been a competitive swimmer for over 10 years.

there is two ways to prevent damage:

**the hard way**: besides using a cap, make sure to shower after practices and use a special swimmers shampoo to get ride of the chlorine. if u have blonde hair, make sure u do it EVERY time no matter what, cuz other wise ur hair will be a nasty green. and try not do over-style your hair (hair dryer, curler, straighter, etc) they can damage your hair and give u split ends, frizz, etc. ugly ugly stuff. thats pretty much all i know.

****Or you can go the easy way**** : Shave ur hair off!!!! :D

A- latex peices dont do anything but keep ur hair out of ur face.

B- if you dont want to damage your hair, get a Swimmers shampoo at any sports stores or at any big drug store.

C- if you want softer hair get a replenishiing conditioner.

there are alot of swim stores that sell shampoos and conditioners that help repair chlorine damage. Also make sure u rinse you hair right after you swim and also rinse out your swim cap.
